What is SMED?
If you are not fully familiar, SMED (Single-minute exchange of die) is a lean production method designed for reducing waste in the manufacturing process.
It provides an optimized and efficient way of converting a process from running the current product to running the next product.
This rapid changeover is key to reducing production batch sizes and thereby reducing uneven flow, production loss and output variability.
SMED is perfect for quick mold changeovers which saves time and money by reducing downtime, waste, inventory and storage space, labor costs while increasing on-time deliveries and optimizing operator safety.

What is MRO?
MRO stands for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations, and is commonly used while describing equipment and components used in a manufacturing facility, but not part of the actual product being manufactured.
Typical examples for MRO items are spare parts, such as wear components like screw tips, back up parts like heater-bands as well as consumables such as lubricants. All of these are considered as MRO materials or Indirect Materials.
MRO items can be critical and unavailability or the delay of delivery of spare parts, or malfunction due to avoidable failure, can result in extended downtime and expensive losses as well as failure to supply a customer.
Most equipment has maintenance schedules and procedures, but machine cooling and mold cooling management are often underestimated in its importance.
